My sending church went through a major transition during my first year on the field. I had no idea about it until it was almost over. I felt I had been unnecessarily left in the dark when I should have been praying for my friends, supporters, and leadership at the church.
So I recruited one of my supporters to start emailing me updates about what was going on in the church body.
Then a church friend started going through cancer treatment. From the very start, I got to be a part of praying for her healing.
Many churches do a great job preparing future workers to go overseas. They offer support, counsel, and prayer and help them discover their calling. When departure day arrives, the church wholeheartedly blesses these missionaries to step into their callings.
It may take several years or several months, but eventually, many church members may begin to forget about their field workers. Communication slips to the wayside.
But communication is critical for your sent ones to stay connected to their sending fellowship. It is as simple as sharing church news and prayer requests. Let them know about big events. Send them links to the worship songs you’re singing on Sunday mornings.
Support your worker by keeping them informed of what’s going on in the life of your church.
